Quarto is constantly looking for more opportunities to sell our content and our books more widely – in new formats, new geographies, new languages.
This is the remit of Quarto Partners, a business of The Quarto Group which identifies and manages new business opportunities, including international publishing partnerships, small acquisitions and distribution opportunities.
Iberoamericana is a Spanish launguage imprint launched by The Quarto Group in early 2017, in partnership with Catapulta Editores, a long-standing co-edition partner of the Group. The partnership gives Quarto direct access to a publishing market worth approximately US$4 billion with 550 million Spanish speakers worldwide. Quarto Iberoamericana publishes 20 books a year, in adult categories such as cookery, lifestyle and spirituality. Catapulta Editores is responsible for sales and distribution in Spain, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. Other distributing partners for Quarto Iberoamericana are Editorial Gustavo Gili de Mexico S.A. which distributes within the Mexican Republic, while The Independent Publishers Group (IPG) distributes to Hispanic readers in the North American market through its specialist Spanish language book division.
Our Quarto Editora imprint was launched in 2014 through an international publishing partnership with Brazil-based Brasil Franchising and their publishing business Editora Nobel. Quarto Editora publishes in categories traditionally strong for both Nobel and Quarto such as cookery, beauty and self-help. Nobel Editora distributes the books through its franchises and main book trade channels.
Our 2016 program included 60 titles, with a mix of core Adult categories (Food & Wine, Esoteric, Pets, Drawing) and some new topics such as Healthy Living, Interior, Gardening and Kids. Successful titles in the program included Build Your Own Burger, from our Quintet imprint, and Build the Robot from Quarto Children’s Books.
In 2016, we launched a new international publishing partnership with Sharjah-based Kalimat Group. The new Kalimat Quarto imprint publishes books in Arabic and distribute them throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
Kalimat Quarto was launched in November 2016 at the Sharjah Book Fair with a range of cookbooks from our 500 series (Quintet). Other categories, including children’s books, are envisaged as the co-operation grows.
