A great opportunity has opened for Young Quarto as we are looking for an new editorial director to manage and develop its four children books imprints. Young Quarto is composed of :

QED Publishing : Award Winning Educational list (published list) ; words & pictures : General Non-fiction (published list) ; Quarto Children's Books : Book Plus and Novelty Non-fiction (co-edition list); Sweet Pea Press: Pre-school list (co-edition list)

The variety of our catalogues makes this opportunity unique for an experienced Editorial Director or Senior Editor looking for the next step in their career. The successful candidate will direct the editorial line of each list creating straight or novelty books from 0 to 12 years old. Leading a team of seven, the new editorial director will nurture a creative atmosphere and mentor talents of the editorial team.

The key responsibilities are:

  • Nurture the editorial lines of four imprints (over 150 titles a year)
  • Create and maintain a creative environment
  • Generate new title proposals to take to Acquisitions
  • Mentoring Editorial team, managing their workloads and holding progress reviews.
  • Provide a clear hand-over brief on live projects to in-house editors, freelance project manager or packager and providing ongoing guidance and support to ensure a project stays on course and true to the original proposal.
  • Oversee progress and comment on the titles managed by the editorial team, from outline and manuscript to printer-ready PDFs
  • Work collaboratively with the Creative Director
  • Source, commission and brief authors
  • Maintain market knowledge
  • Advise on suitability of authors and freelancers
