The Children's Africana Book Awards (CABA) has named Grandad Mandela (Frances Lincoln Children's Books) a 2019 Honor Book for Young children.
In the spring of 2020, the Center for African Studies at Howard University in Washington, DC will host an awards ceremony, and the Smithsonian Museum of African Art will host a book festival to celebrate. In the days preceding the award events, CABA's book partners will take winners to local schools for book talks where each child attending a talk will receive a signed gift book.
The Children's Africana Book Awards (CABA) are given under the auspices of Africa Access and the Outreach Council of the African Studies Association (ASA). Africa Access is a non-profit association founded in 1989 that focuses on the scholarly analysis of children's literature about Africa. ASA is a non-profit corporation founded in 1957. The ASA's Outreach Council shares and disseminates resources about Africa; exchanges experiences on best practices in conducting outreach activities; serves the ASA membership in educating the public about Africa; and facilitates the exchange of ideas, information and research findings on Africa.
