Chella Quint

Chella Quint is a Brooklyn-born author, educator, researcher, performer, and founder of the Period Positive movement. She studied dramatic writing at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts before moving to England, where she qualified as a middle and high school teacher. Chella coined the phrase “period positive” in 2006 and has spent over two decades helping children, teens, and adults understand menstruation and talk about it more openly.

She helps schools, families, communities, policymakers, and health professionals to make menstruation education clearer, more practical and more inclusive. Chella’s work brings together teaching, research, science communication, performance, art and design, and looks at literacy across the menstrual span, from first periods to last periods.

Chella has a master’s degree in education and a PhD in Art and Design. Adventures in Menstruating, her popular touring comedy show, grew out of her master’s research and wove together the experiences and ideas of students and teachers with the history of menstrual product advertising. She is also the author of a book about periods for adults, Be Period Positive, and was a script advisor and appeared onscreen in the International Emmy-nominated BBC special Let’s Talk About Periods.
