Commissioning Editor

 

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Commissioning Editor to join our Design Eye team, developing outstanding children’s novelty and book plus ideas for the global market.

 

Contract  

Maternity cover, part time, fixed term for 12 months

 

Salary

From £30,000 per annum

Working hours 

28 hours per week, over 4 days, Monday to Thursday, 9.30am – 5.30pm. We currently operate a discretionary hybrid model, with two days in our London office and one working from home. 

 

About the role 

 

As Commissioning Editor, you will conceive and create innovative novelty, gift and non-fiction books and box kits that explore high-interest STEAM and trending topics.

 

The main tasks will be: 

  • Creating, commissioning and project managing approximately 20 titles per year.
  • Developing projects at every stage, from initial concept through sales material to print-ready files.  
  • Working alongside design colleagues to create innovative, exciting, commercial formats and concepts.
  • Liaising with production and design to deliver quality novelty and book-plus titles.
  • Managing schedules and budgets to ensure key dates and costs are met.
  • Identifying global market trends in children’s publishing and the wider children’s entertainment space.
  • Being the publishing lead for assigned customers and publishing strands.

 

About you 

You’ll be a strategic and adaptable self-starter who has great editorial skills, a strong visual eye, and is commercially astute. Experience of novelty and early-years titles is a plus. We are looking for someone who can:

 

  • Work collaboratively with a diverse range of contributors, both in-house and freelance.
  • Deliver projects on time and in budget.
  • Maintain publishing processes and editorial standards.
  • Prioritise projects and tasks effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with colleagues and external contacts.
