The Quarto Group’s New York team is seeking an exceptionally well-organized and experienced part-time Editor who possesses a strong background in cookbook and recipe editing as well as illustrated non-fiction areas of publishing including self-help, entertainment, etc. This position will be based remotely with a max of 32 hrs. a week and will report into our New York City office.
The Editor serves as the editorial lead taking titles from concept to final production, through developmental and line editing of manuscripts and thorough reviews of designed layouts. The role will include the day-to-day editorial responsibilities of book projects on the production schedule for the New York frontlist imprints—Rock Point, Wellfleet, and Epic Ink. In addition, the Editor will monitor and maintain the metadata for their titles and keep track of how their titles are progressing in the market. The Editor will also be responsible for submitting and tracking payments for contracts and editorial services as well as thoughtfully participating in editorial discussions, marketing brainstorms, and production meetings. The Editor will monitor schedules and work with internal teams and their authors to ensure book titles deliver on time and on budget.
Position Specifications
Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Required
- Knowledge of publishing best practices with an emphasis on book development and production
- Strong editing ability, i.e., developmental and line editing and thorough knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style guidelines
- Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects at once and effectively prioritize within tight deadlines.
- Ability to communicate quickly and clearly with all team members with an emphasis on understanding digital communication tools, i.e., Teams, etc.
Education and Experience Required
- A minimum of 4 years editorial experience in publishing in an editorial role, preferably with an illustrated non-fiction publisher
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
