Commissioning Editor

Lincoln Children's books and Wide Eyed Editions are looking for a passionate Commissioning Editor to show off their commercial flair and editorial spirit with a new role, focused on the growing Lincoln Children's list of narrative non-fiction and gift books. The successful candidate will have proven experience commissioning books and be hungry to make product that breaks boundaries and challenges the notion of what an illustrated children's book can be. This is an exciting role for someone with initiative and drive, working with one of the most talented teams in the industry. 

Key responsibilities

  • Crafting 10-15 new book ideas each year and overseeing them from commissioning, through the acquisitions and P&L process, to final manuscript and layouts
  • Work closely with the Publisher to craft and build key areas of the list, particularly within diversity, narrative non-fiction, adventure and fantasy
  • Obtain production costings and develop new formats
  • Present new titles at acquisitions meetings
  • Creating and managing schedules
  • Working with the design team on illustration briefs
  • Pre-press checks on files & covers
  • Uploading & updating metadata
  • Writing AIs & catalogue entries 

Essential Skills

  • Excellent copy-editing and proofreading
  • Fluent working with InDesign
  • Some knowledge of US and international markets
